It’s sometimes difficult to believe that 1974 was half a century ago but time passes, even if some of the issues we face don’t change. Soundings contributor Alasdair looks back 50 years and highlights many similarities between 2024 and 1974, but reminds us of some surprises too.

    Alasdair Hutton has been associated with blind welfare since the 1970s when he edited and narrated the Playback audio magazine in Glasgow and contributed to the now closed Soundaround audio magazine. He joined Borders Talking Newspapers in 1997 as a volunteer reader and is presently the charity’s Convener.
