Summary
As the United States prepares for its latest incoming president, Soundings contributor Liz looks back at a previous American First Lady – Betty Ford. Betty was a reluctant First Lady, who became well-known for her personal warmth and openness about her health struggles. She used that openness and her position as First Lady to change attitudes and behaviour towards serious illness across the United States, creating a lasting legacy.
