Soundings contributor Lindsay brings us the bare or is it ‘bear’ historical facts surrounding how a soft toy was associated with Theodore ‘Teddy’ Roosevelt. There followed a boom in cuddly bear characters and a subsequent bear toy craze, reflected in literature, music and social contexts. Indeed Rupert the Bear, Winnie the Pooh, Paddington and others are still popular today.
